E MAIN TYPES OF BILARDO AND GAME
ITALIAN / 5 BIRILLI
Billiards without holes, with five pins in the center and three billiards.
Traditionally popular in Italy and South America, it is now also booming in the rest of Europe and Asia.
The player hits his own cue ball with the cue ball, trying to get it on the opponent’s cue ball and, consequently, knock down the pins.
With both cues, you can hit the ball to increase your score.
Until the late 1980s, this game was played on billiards tables with holes, known precisely as Italiana’s.
Today these tables are in disuse for sporting practice, except for the game of boccette and the 8/15 pool, also known as narrow-hole pool, as we will explain later.
GORIZIANA
Similar to the Italian specialty, but with nine pins instead of five.
In addition, the pins are also scored differently than the Italian specialty/5 pins.
BALLS
This is the most classic game played on a pool table without cues.
4 red balls, 4 white balls, and 1 blue ball (smaller, ball function) are used.
It is normally played on the same type of billiards table used for the Goriziana and the 5-pin Italian.
POOL
It is the most popular discipline in the world and is growing all the time.
It is practiced on a table with 6 holes and with numbered balls of different colors.
The goal is to bag all the balls with the white ball.
The main variations are:
- 8-ball
- 9-ball
- Continuous pool
- Pool 14.1
CARAMBOLA
A game without holes, with three balls.
It is considered the most elegant and complex.
The carom is the shot with which one’s own ball touches both of the other two.
The main sub-disciplines are:
- 3 sides
- 1 bank
- free
- artistic
SNOOKER
It is played on a table with 6 holes, using 15 red balls (full and unnumbered), 6 colored balls (also unnumbered), and the white ball.
The objective is to bag the balls according to the specific rules, scoring more points than the opponent.
